14th Annual Samuel J. Hassenbusch Lectureship Award 2019 : Linda R. Watkins, PhD ![]() Dr. Linda Watkins received her PhD in Physiology from the Medical College of Virginia. After postdoctoral training there and at the University of California-Davis, she retrained in immunology, both in private sector Research & Development and as the focus of a Career Advancement Award from NIH.
She joined the faculty at the University of Colorado-Boulder in 1990 and is currently a University of Colorado Distinguished Professor in Psychology & the Center for Neurosciences. She has won numerous teaching and research awards, including Western Pain Society Pioneer in Pain, University of Colorado-Boulder Inventor of the Year, Prince of Asturias Award for Science and Technology, American Academy of Pain Management Research Award in Pain Management, American Pain Society Kerr Award, and the PsychoNeuroImmunology Research Society Research Award.
She has been honored by being selected for a number of lectureships, including the National Institutes of Health Kreshover Lectureship, Cleveland Clinical Pain Research Lectureship, the Karolinska Institute Clinical Science Lectureship (Stockholm, Sweden), and the University of Washington Pain Center Gunn-Loke Pain Lectureship. She has authored over 390 original research papers, over 60 scholarly refereed review articles and over 35 book chapters. She is on the Editorial Board of Pain, Journal of Pain, and Brain, Behavior & Immunity. Her research interests include immune and glial regulation of pain, opioids, and other drugs of abuse
