WORKSHOP LEARNING OBJECTIVES

NP/ PA Workshop

  • Review key updates to regulatory rules, including TMB Chapter 170 and TNP Chapter 228, and describe documentation requirements and common pitfalls in clinical practice.
  • Explain appropriate prescribing practices for buprenorphine, opioid tapering strategies, and methods for monitoring patient compliance, including interpreting urine drug screen results.
  • Identify effective interventions for treating difficult patients and outline the roles of APRNs and PAs in conducting comprehensive patient workups and managing complex cases.

 Addiction Workshop

  • Describe effective screening methods for substance use disorders and explain the overlapping neurobiology of pain and addiction.
  • Summarize strategies for cognitive reframing and adaptive thinking in managing chronic pain conditions to improve patient outcomes.
  • Identify communication techniques that enhance patient-provider interactions and discuss management approaches for patients with chronic pain and addiction, including perioperative considerations.

 Ultrasound Workshop

  • Review key anatomical structures and sonoanatomy relevant to peripheral nerve and joint injections.
  • Learn proper techniques for ultrasound-guided nerve blocks, including cervical sympathetic, ilioinguinal, suprascapular, and genicular nerve blocks.
  • Apply motor-sparing techniques for shoulder RFA and perform advanced blocks, such as Fascia Iliaca and PENG blocks, for hip and knee pain management under ultrasound guidance.

 Pain Practice Management for Young Physicians Workshop

  • Review clinical best practices and modifiable risk factors to prevent surgical site infections.
  • Evaluate the benefits and risks of investing in a surgery center as part of their practice strategy.
  • Review financial insights, including budgeting and investment strategies, to enhance long-term financial stability as a young physician.

 MAIN CONFERENCE LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Examine and apply fundamental scientific knowledge and technical skills in the diagnosis and management of acute and chronic pain conditions.
  • Update knowledge on the latest advancements in pain management, including interventional techniques, pharmacological treatments, and emerging therapies.
  • Evaluate the current evidence base for the diagnosis and clinical management of pain disorders, with an emphasis on multimodal and personalized approaches.
  • Review practice management strategies and develop plans to enhance operational efficiency, patient outcomes, and compliance with regulatory guidelines in pain medicine.
  • Develop new clinical, procedural, and regulatory compliance skills to optimize patient care and ensure adherence to legal and ethical standards in pain management.
